What refreshments to choose for a childrens party?

Are you planning a children’s birthday party and unsure about refreshments? In this article, we’ll be glad to help. Despite what it seems, children can be picky eaters. They have no problem expressing when they don’t like the food, and may not even touch it for the rest of the day. We have plenty of tips for you on how to avoid this situation and prepare simple delicacies for the kids. It’s important for the dishes to not only be tasty but also visually appealing and able to capture the attention of the little guests.

What needs to be considered before preparing refreshments

First and foremost, you should find out from the parents of the invited children if anyone has allergies to certain foods. If there will be small children at the celebration, avoid foods that could pose a choking hazard. By this, we mean smaller fruit pits or large hard candies. Generally speaking, traditional sweets such as chocolate, lollipops, or candies are no longer as popular at children’s parties. Besides the fact that families likely have these types of sweets readily available at home, you can replace them with much tastier and healthier alternatives, for which parents will surely be grateful.

Furthermore, you should consider whether the refreshments will be homemade or ordered. This matter is entirely up to you, but if you have the time, we recommend preparing the refreshments at home. This way, you’ll have everything under control. However, if you’re not skilled in making cakes, it’s better to order one to save yourself some trouble.

How to choose refreshments on hot days

Warm days offer more possibilities for utilizing fruits and dishes. This applies primarily to fruits and vegetables. You might have imagined a fruit bowl or a platter with sliced vegetables. However, let your imagination work and present the food to children in a more entertaining form.

For instance, make fruit skewers. Simply use four different types of colorful fruits (grapes, melon, kiwi, pineapple), which you can thread onto a skewer. From the melon, you can also create stars or other shapes using a Christmas cookie cutter. Arrange the skewers on a larger plate, and the first treat is ready. You can also arrange fruit pieces in ice cream cones. Both options allow children to take them from the table and enjoy fresh fruit while playing.

When it comes to beverages, try homemade juices. Anyone can buy sweet lemonades. Be original and prepare three kinds of lemonades in glass pitchers. All you need is soda water, syrup, and fruit pieces (such as raspberries, blueberries, melon, etc.). They look and taste great. For little ladies, afternoon coffee will be a pleasant surprise, which you can easily make from milk, water, and instant coffee. Served in stylish mugs, the pleasure of the delicious drink will be even greater.

Another tip for refreshments

The centerpiece of the set table should be the birthday cake. Ideally, bake or order a cake in your child’s favorite theme. Don’t forget the candles or a much-loved cake fountain. Other sweet treats that are popular include cupcakes and cake pops (which can be arranged into a beautiful bouquet). What kids love are pancakes. Prepare them in smaller sizes with various fillings – cottage cheese, jam, chocolate, etc. You’ll definitely earn praise! As a quicker option, you can buy ready-made frozen mini-windmills, which you can find in any supermarket.

Another delicacy for little ones are dishes made from puff pastry. There are many variations. Popular options are sausages in puff pastry or snails, which can be skewered on a stick and shaped like lollipops. It’s worth mentioning that classics never disappoint. Mini schnitzels, chicken strips, fries, and popcorn, although not part of a healthy diet, are not an issue on this day. The main thing is that the kids enjoy them.

Tortilla rolls as a tip for the finale

Finally, we have a recipe for a quick, very tasty, and appetizing dish. It’s about wheat tortilla rolls. From our own experience, we know that this treat disappears from plates first.

Spread tortillas with butter or another favorite spread. Then add lettuce leaves, ham, sliced cheese, and finally a strip of cucumber. Place it at the edge and roll slowly and tightly. Finally, wrap the roll in plastic wrap and ideally put it in the fridge overnight. Enjoy your meal!
